52nd YEAR
Kelly Kinser Master In Lapped Traffic

FREMONT, OH - Kelly Kinser was the master of lapped traffic Saturday
night at Fremont Speedway in the Haulmark All Star sprint car 40 lap
feature. His expertise paid off to the tune of $5,000 for his first win of
2003 and he becomes the tenth different All Star winner in 13 races this
season.
"We've been struggling a bit," Kinser said from victory lane. "But
tonight we got back to what we needed to do. I knew someone was right behind
me because of all the photographers taking pictures, so I knew they were
coming up on me." That driver was Chad Kemenah, who eventually finished
third behind runner-up Greg Wilson. Kinser's winning ride is an Eagle
Chassis with Gaerte power, riding on Hoosier Tires and sponsorship from
Rotochopper, Crone Lumber and JB's Salvage.
As Dean Jacobs and Jason Johnson brought the field down for the start,
Jacobs jumped into the lead in the Ray Pullins No. 29 over third starting
Kinser and fourth starter Kemenah. Fifth starter Dale Blaney took over third
from Kemenah on lap six and was second ahead of Kinser by lap eight. Blaney
was using the high groove and took the lead from Jacobs on lap nine, but
held on only three laps before Kinser, in his patented low groove, ducked
under and into the lead. They were side by side for five laps, but Kinser
kept command until dense lapped traffic allowed him to stretch his margin
over Blaney. As traffic thinned, Blaney pulled right back onto Kinser's
bumper, but as the lead pair moved through more backmarkers, Kinser once
again stretched his advantage.
Kemenah moved in on Blaney in traffic and got the second spot on lap 23
with Wilson now fourth. The only caution of the night came out on lap 25
when Paul McMahan, who had a great run going in fourth and was challenging
for third, hit the front stretch concrete and flattened a right rear tire.
For the restart it was Kinser over Kemenah, Blaney, Wilson and Jimmy
Stinson. Kinser went low when the green reappeared, with Kemenah running the
high groove. They were side by side into lapped traffic, but those lapped
cars thwarted Kemenah's attempts to take the lead. Meanwhile, Wilson was
closing in on Kemenah, and took second with just four laps remaining. Kinser
pulled away from the battle for second in traffic, and Wilson went high to
try and reel him in but to no avail.
"We were hanging out around fourth or fifth," runnerup Wilson recalled. "I
about smoked the fence a couple of times but at the end the American Racer
tires were really coming in. In lapped traffic we got bottled up and we
could not get to him (Kinser) quick enough."
Kemenah said, "I knew I was going to be in trouble when we saw that
caution," which caused him to lose his advantage over the third and fourth
place cars.
Jimmy Stinson got past Blaney for fourth on the last lap, with Danny
Smith sixth after starting 11th, followed by Byron Reed, 22nd starter John
Ivy, Jacobs and McMahan.
The Crown Battery heat fell to Wilson, the B&B Products heat went to
Jason Dukes, the Engler Machine and Tool heat was won by Paul McMahan and
the TP Wings heat fell to Bobby Clark.  Mark Keegan won the Outerwears
Pre-filters C Main and the United Aluminum Window Sales & Consulting B Main
fell to Jimmy Stinson while Dale Blaney captured the Haulmark Dash. Wilson
was the Huggins Cams Fast Time qualifier. Phil Gressman had set the third
fastest time in qualifying, but came up light at the scales and was
disqualified, forcing him to start last all night long.
In the 20-lap 305 sprint main, fourth starting Roger Shammo took over
from early leader Mark Lang on lap 12 and led the rest of the way over Lang,
Matt Merrill, Scott Miller and Caleb Griffith.
