52nd YEAR
Ivy Picks Way Through Lapped Traffic For Fremont Victory

    By Brian Liskai

FREMONT, Ohio (May 3, 2003) - John Ivy picked his way through lapped traffic in perfect fashion to claim the Willies Sales and Service/Torro Lawn Mower Night sprint feature Saturday at Fremont Speedway. Ivy bested a great field of 56 cars - 27 of which traveled to "The Track That Action Built" with the Bumper to Bumper Interstate Racing Association out of Wisconsin.

Ivy passed earlier leader Travis Whitney and held off a late challenge from Helena, Ohio's Phil Gressman to score his 17th career feature victory at Fremont Speedway.

"I had to be careful in lapped traffic...I didn't want to take too many chances. My crew chief Guy Meyers was giving me hand signals, so I knew I was somewhat okay," said Ivy, the 2001 and 2002 Fremont Track Champion. "I've got to thank Sid and Beth Eickelberry for giving me such a great car and Guy Meyers and my brother Scott for all their help. It's also kind of neat to win on Willies Sales and Service Night for the second straight year...I used to work there."

Behind Ivy at the finish were Gressman, Mark Keegan, Lee Jacobs (who set a new track record in qualifying at 11.732), Byron Reed (who started 21st), Bobby Clark, Travis Whitney, Kim Mock, Mike Linder and Joe Roe.

In the dirt truck feature, Brian Arnold redeemed himself from two weeks ago, when he ran out of fuel while holding a commanding lead, to score the win over Dwight Waltermeier, Rex Wright, Greg Summitt, Steve Sabo, Jim McGrath, Danny Roepke, Bob Dible, Brian Sebetto and Darrell Brown.

Fremont Speedway will be back in action Saturday, May 10 with Roots Poultry Night featuring the 410 sprints, 305 sprints and dirt trucks.
