52nd YEAR
Jeff Shephard Is 5th Winner In Five Features At Fremont

By Brian Liskai

FREMONT, Ohio (May 17, 2003) - In just his fifth night in the Miller Rigging sprinter, Jeff "The Jet" Shephard passed Dale Blaney with five laps to go to become the fifth different winner in five nights of racing at Fremont Speedway.

"Boy you can tell my crew chief Andy Potter grew up here...he knows something about this race track. It was fast and got faster as the race went on," said Shephard. "I knew Dale would be tough. We got into lapped traffic and I was able to close. We raced side by side for a few laps and that was
fun. "

"It's great to be back in victory lane in just my fifth start for Bob and Heath Miller," added last year's top All Star Circuit of Champions feature
winner.

With a great field of sprints on hand - the All Star show at KC Raceway was rained out earlier and many of the teams made their way to Fremont - Blaney jumped into the early lead from his outside front row starting position. Blaney, aboard the Andrews Motorsports 72, took a commanding lead and began lapping traffic four laps into the feature. Shephard moved into the runner-up spot five laps into the race and patiently followed Blaney until heavy lapped traffic with 10 laps to go. Blaney and Shephard raced side by side for five laps before Shephard was able to pull away for the win on
Fremont Fence Night.

Blaney settled for second, with Chad Kemenah third, Byron Reed fourth, Kenny Jacobs (up from 9th) finishing fifth, fast qualifier Greg Wilson sixth, John Ivy (up from 17th), 7th, Phil Gressman, 8th, Andy James, 9th and Bobby Clark rounding out the top 10.

Jamie Miller made up for his bobble last week, as he hit a lapped car while leading the 305 feature, to pick up the victory.  He is the third 305 sprint feature winner in four nights of racing. Ryan Lowe finished second, Scott Miller up from 10th to finish third, Andy Shammo up from 15th to finish fourth, and Roger Shammo up from 16th to finish fifth.

In the dirt truck feature, Gregg Summitt lead all 15 laps for his first win of the season. Brian Arnold was second, Danny Roepke finished third, Rich Farmer fourth and Darrell Brown rounded out the top 10.

Fremont Speedway is back in action Saturday, May 24 with the Budweiser Shootout, featuring double features for the 410 sprints. The first - the Bud-Light feature - will be 25 laps paying $2,500 to win. The finishing order will be completely inverted and a 30-lap Budweiser feature will be run paying $3,000 to win. If the same driver wins both, there is an extra $2,000 Bud bonus.
