Rob Chaney Holds Off Kenny Jacobs For Bauman Cash At Fremont

By Brian Liskai

FREMONT, Ohio (July 12, 2003) - Rob Chaney held off a last lap challenge by
Kenny Jacobs to claim his second 410 sprint feature win of the season on
Baumann Automotive Group Night at  Fremont Speedway.

Chaney took the lead from front-row starter Kyle Sauder at the halfway mark
of the 30-lap feature and pulled away to a half track lead. Jacobs, the
night's quick qualifier, was busy working his way up from eighth, and was on
Chaney's bumper as they entered lapped traffic with just five laps to go.
Chaney and Jacobs raced side by side and nose to tail the last five laps,
with Jacobs pulling along side as the two exited the fourth turn for the
checker.

"I saw Kenny under me and I just tried to keep the car straight and get off
turn four with some momentum. I knew Kenny would be coming...he's got a
great crew chief in Andy Potter (from Fremont) and he knows how to get you
around this track," said Chaney, who hails from Millersburg, Ohio and pilots
the Stan Courtad #9x. "I really have to give it to my crew who worked their
tails off to get me better after the heat. And Stan Courtad gives us
everything we could want to go racing."

Chaney's win was worth $3,000 as the Baumann Auto Group kicked in an extra
$500. Also, 20 fans got the opportunity to pull 20 pills for the starting
position of their driver. Brenda Wise drew the number four which is where
Chaney started, and she went home with $500 also.

Behind Chaney and Holmesville's Kenny Jacobs at the checkered in the
non-stop feature were Kyle Sauder, Elmore's Alvin Roepke and Fremont's Mark
Keegan

The 305 sprint feature was a barn-burner, as Crestline's Matt Ferrell led
the first 24 laps, only to be passed by Norwalk's Chad Laux coming out of
the fourth turn for the checkered flag. It was Laux first career feature win
at Fremont.

Behind Laux at the checkered of the 25-lap non-stop feature was Ferrell,
Scott Miller, Brian Sebetto and Bill Kraylek.

Fremont's Bobby Davis scored his first feature win of the season in the dirt
truck feature over Greg Summit, Steve Sabo, Andy Maynard and Bob Dible.

Fremont Speedway will be back in action Saturday, July 19 with Schiets
Motors, Honda-Yamaha-Suzuki sponsoring the three divisions of racing.
