Harrison Tames
Fremont; Bill Kraylek Scores Fifth Career Win; Bob Dible Scores First Win
By Brian Liskai
FREMONT, Ohio (July 26, 2003) - Three's were wild for Fremont's David
Harrison Saturday night at Fremont Speedway. The second generation
driver
powered into the lead of the 410 sprint feature from his third starting
spot
on lap three and scored his third career feature win at "The Track
That
Action Built."
"Doug Ludwig put together a great team. The guys worked hard all night
on
the car and it was easy to drive. I almost blew it though...I got into
three
too hard and almost slid off the top," said Harrison, who picked up
a
feature win earlier this year at Attica Raceway Park.
Harrison took the lead of the 30-lap feature from John Wisbon and set
sail
around the high side of the track. The race came to a half on
lap seven
when defending two-time track champion John Ivy of Fremont came together
with Millersburg's Rob Chaney in turn one, with Ivy getting upside
down. The
point leader coming into the night was done for the race and was credited
with a 20th place finish, tightening up the championship point race.
When the race resumed, Harrison again built up a half straight-away
lead,
with Gibsonburg's Craig Mintz moving into second. Meanwhile, a big
battle
was taking shape for third through sixth between Byron Reed, John Wisbon,
Mark Keegan and Alvin Roepke, who started ninth.
Harrison cruised to the win ahead of rookie Mintz, Roepke, Reed, Wisbon,
Keegan, rookie Brock Mayes (who started 17th), Phil Gressman, Lee Jacobs
(who started 13th) and Bobby Clark rounding out the top 10.
Fives were wild for Fostoria's Bill Kraylek in the 305 sprint feature.
He
started fifth in the field and scored his fifth career Fremont feature
win.
Fremont's Bryan Sebetto finished a strong second with Scott Miller
up from
eighth to third; Castalia's Caleb Griffith fourth; Fremont's Brian
Smith up
from 16th to finish fifth; Fostoria's Jamie Miller sixth; Green Springs'
Josh Hill seventh; Gibsonburg's Roger Shammo up from 13th to finish
eighth;
Fremont's Ryan Lowe, ninth; and Norwalk's Chad Laux up from 17th to
finish
10th.
The dirt truck feature was a barn-burner, with Gibsonburg's Andy Maynard
and
Fostoria's Bob Dible racing side by side the last half of the race.
At the
checkered, Maynard edged Dible for the win, but stripped of the win
after a
post-race inspection found an illegal ignition system. That handed
Dible his
first career Fremont feature win. Fremont's Bobby Davis finished second
followed by Fremont's Steve Sabo up from eighth; Tiffin's Brian Arnold
finished fourth, up from 14th starting spot; fifth went to Carey's
Greg
Summit; sixth to Fremont's Rich Farmer; seventh to Fremont's Kenny
Clark
Jr.; eighth to Corey Ward; Port Clinton's Joe Hartlaub finished ninth
with
Fremont's Jim McGrath being creditied with 10th.
Saturday was Kid's Night at Fremont Speedway, with the Tackle Box II
providing 10 bikes that were raffled off to kids 10 and under. KS Sales
and
Service also paid out $50 each to three fans who caught Frisbees with
the
starting position of the three feature winners.
Fremont Speedway will be back in action Saturday, Aug. 2, with the Chuck
Kear Memorial-Fremont 50 paying the A-main winner of the 410 sprints
$5,000
. There will also be over $8,500 worth of manufacturer's giveaways
to the
starting 22 cars in the A-Main. The 305 sprints will also be on the
racing
card, with over $4,000 in manufacturer's giveaways to the 20 cars making
the
A-main.
