Andy Maynard Gets
Truck Win Back
By Brian Liskai
FREMONT, Ohio (July 28, 2003) - After much investigation into the costs
and components of several ignition systems for the dirt trucks at Fremont
Speedway, driver Andy Maynard's win Saturday, July 26, was reinstated.
Maynard's truck was declared to have an illegal ignition system following
Saturday's racing, and his feature win was taken away. However, Fremont
promoter Jim Ford with information provided by Maynard's truck owner Bill
Fleming and others involved in racing, including engine builders, found
the used MSD ignition system is actually cheaper than some distributor
systems.
"The rules contained a gray area and this ignition system fell into
that area. After researching the issue we determined it would be legal.
We want this division to be fun and affordable to the teams and this helps
accomplish that," said Ford.
Bob Dible, who had been declared the winner after Maynard's disqualification,
will be credited with finishing second. The point standings will also be
changed to reflect the corrected feature finish.
