Fremont Speedway suspends racing activities

By Brian Liskai

FREMONT, Ohio (Sept. 3, 2005) - Fremont Speedway Promoters Jim and Joanne Ford have suspended racing activities at "The Track That Action Built" until further notice. Sunday's Burns Iron & Metal 305 Sprint Invitational has been postponed.

Doug Ford, son of Jim and Joanne, who handles many of the track's promotions, scheduling and race format activities on race nights, was involved in a serious motor vehicle crash this past week and is in critical condition in the intensive care unit at St. Charles Hospital in Toledo. Doug, who has Muscular Dystrophy, suffered numerous broken bones.

"Randy (the Ford's other son) is still healing from his accident earlier this year (he was struck by a sprint car in July, suffering a broken leg). With Doug's condition...racing just isn't that important right now," said an emotional Jim Ford. "We appreciate the prayers and encouragement we have received from the racing community, but our family needs to be together right now. I hope everyone understands."

Race fans are asked to continue to keep the Ford family in their thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
