55th YEAR
Chaney, Jacobs $2,500 richer at Fremont Speedway

By Andrew Barman

FREMONT, OHIO (8/12/06)- Earlier this year, it was Fremont Speedway's Fremont Federal Credit Union 305 Sprints who had the upper hand against the 360 sprint competition. But on Saturday, the NRA Sprint Invaders got a measure of revenge, dominating the combined 305/360 field on Auto Valu Night.

It was the second night of the challenge, as Limaland Motorsports Park hosted the first leg on Friday with Millersburg's Rob Chaney scoring the win for the 360 sprints. With 49 cars in the combined 305/360 class on Saturday at Fremont, the results were the same, as Chaney swept the weekend aboard Ken Meggitt's Diet Pepsi #12, earning a $1,000 bonus on top of the $1,500 for the victory, the 7th of his career at "The Track That Action Built."

On the front row of the 25 lap A-Main for the NRA 360 vs. 305 sprint was a pair of Fremonters, Craig Kays
(305) and Bobby Clark driving the Aaron Call owned 83 (360.) At the drop of the green flag 18th starting
Mike Brecht, the current NRA points leader, got into the front stretch wall and flattened his right front tire
sending him into the pits for repairs.

Once Brecht rejoined the field, the green flag flew once again and leading the first lap was the 6D of Craig Kays
followed by Clark, Mike Miller, Nick Mulheim, and Tim Allison. On lap 7, while Kayes was checking out from
the field the driver on the move was Chaney. Chaney passed Clark on the outside of turn 4 to take over the 3rd spot and had his sights set on the leaders Kayes and Miller. By lap 10, Chaney desposed of Miller and was side by side with Kayes for the lead, which he took the next lap.

Chaney wouldn't look back as he rolled to a impressive win, with Mike Miller finishing second, followed by Clark, Allison and Brian Sebetto (who started 15th in his 305 sprinter).

Also on the racing card was the Fort Ball Pizza Palace 410 sprints. Track point leader and defending Fremont Speedway track champion Mike Linder began the night, setting fast time over the 29 car field.

Linder rolled a 8 for the inversion for the feature and put Texan Sam Haerpthe and the Golden Boy Craig Mintz on the front row. When the green flag flew the Texan led the field down into one with Mintz, Bryan Scott, Lee Jacobs, and Phil Gressman in tow. By lap 5, Mintz passed Haerpthe on the outside of turn 2 and started to pull away. The battle heated up for second between Jacobs, Gressman, and Haerpthe.

On lap 18, Jacobs closed in on and passed Mintz on the inside of 2, but for naught, when the yellow flag came
out and sent him back to second. With 5 laps to go it was Mintz, Jacobs, Gressman, and Linder duking it out for the lead. As the laps ticked away the top three changed as Jacobs took the lead from Mintz in turn two, bringing Linder along into second. Linder tried his hardest but couldn't catch the Holmesville, Ohio native who went on to win his second straight feature at Fremont. Linder, Mintz, Scott, and Ivy rounded out the top five.
