FREMONT, Ohio (Saturday, Feb. 17, 2007)
- Besides the weekly purse and the Burns Iron and Metal 305 Sprint Invitational
- one of the biggest purses in the country for 305 sprints, Fremont Speedway's
Fremont Federal Credit Union 305 sprints will have other cash awards to
battle for in 2007 - especially in their heat races.
For the fourth straight year the 305 Computer
Man Dash offers increased financial bonuses for the heat race winners along
with a special dash where drivers can earn extra money and accumulate points
towards a season-ending point fund. Over $20,000 has been awarded to 305
sprint drivers over the past three years.
The 2007 rules for, “The Computer Man
$5000 Dash Championship” are:
1. Winning car and driver of each
heat race make it into the Dash. A provisional will also be added, the
provisional will be the heat race feature transfer driver who drew the
highest starting pill prior to the heats. Late entries (sign-up after the
drivers meeting) are not eligible for the provisional. There will be no
provisional if there are six or more heats.
2. Starting position in the Dash is determined
by heat race. (i.e. 1st heat winner starts 1st). Provisional must start
last, unless the provisional driver is a heat race winner; in this case
that driver will start in their normal spot and receive a bonus of $20.
3. No driver or car substitutions. Drivers
must take the green flag to earn points & money.
4. Points are awarded as follows: 1st-10pts,
2nd-8pts, 3rd-7pts, 4th-6th-6pts. One (1) Bonus point will be added for
each car passed. Example: Started the dash in 5th and finishing 2nd would
earn 11 points (8pts for 2nd + 3 Bonus points).
5. Season championship tie breaker: 1st-number
of dash wins, 2nd-number of dashes made, 3rd-Most Dash Bonus Points, 4th-Fremont
track championship points.
6. Weekly money paid as follows: 1st -$40,
2nd -$30, 3rd-6th-$20.
7. Computer Man Inc. will keep the official
point standings.
8. Computer Man Inc. will distribute the
weekly money to the drivers after that night' racing whenever possible.
Championship money will be awarded at the awards banquet.
"The 305 sprints provide some of
the most exciting racing every week. The division is just full of talented
drivers...look how many have gone on to be successful 410 sprint drivers,"
said Ross Paulson, owner of The Computer Man. "We came up with this dash
idea just to give the drivers something extra to shoot for and the fans
some added entertainment and fun for the heat races. These 305 teams put
a lot of time and money into this sport and this is a way we can give them
a little extra money. I have to thank Jim Ford for allowing us to get involved
like this and the businesses who continue to support this each year."
Paulson has put together sponsors
for each of the 305 heat races in 2006, including:
Heat 1 - Riverside Machine & Tool;
Heat 2 - Gressman Power Sports; Heat 3 - R & R Auto Wrecking; and Heat
4 - Borer Mirror & Glass (first half of season) and Reco Equipment
(second half of season).
