FREMONT, Oh. - Byron Reed is a bridesmaid no longer at Fremont Speedway. The Monclova, Ohio driver led all 30 laps Saturday night to snare his first feature win of the season at the Track That Action Built, after scoring two runner-up finishes the previous two weeks.
"It's a lot easier when you start up front," said pole sitter Reed. "I didn't have the greatest car tonight, but it got us to victory lane. I didn't hate seeing the 92 car (Mark Keegan) go out...I figures as heavy as the track was, he'd be hard to beat."
Behind Reed at the checkered were Alvin Roepke, John Wisbon, Chad Kemenah, Todd Kane, Dustin Daggett, Todd Heller, John Ivy, Bob Lime and Troy Vaccaro.
Heat wins went to Kemenah, Ivy, Lime and Heller. Jim Dayton won the B-Main. Rob Chaney set a new track record in qualifying at 12.092, erasing the mark set by Dean Jacobs just two weeks ago. In all six cars surpassed the track record on the tacky surface.
A scary moment at the start of the feature as Brad Ellenberger flipped down the front stretch, hitting the flag stand. Thankfully no one was injured. Later, Bruce Robenalt, who was running second at the time, hit the front stretch wall and flipped hard, destroying his sprinter. David Harrison was also involved and he flipped on the front stretch also. Neither driver was injured.
Brandon Martin, who missed the races last week to go to his high school prom, made up for it Saturday. The Attica youngster led wire to wire to score the win over Brock Mayes, Bill Kraylek, Bob Foster, Mike Oberdorff, Roger Shammo, Lee Potter, Mark Lang, Eric Lynd and Ed Psuerny.
Heat wins went to Bill Kraylek, Lee Potter and Psuerny. Eric Lynd won the B-Main.
Steve Sabo continued his dominance of the dirt truck division, winning his third straight feature of the season. Including the last six shows of last year, Sabo has now won nine in a row. Behind Sabo were Brian Sebetto, John Rhoads, Rich Farmer, Rob Boutwell, Jeremy Cogar, Dan Roepke, Darin Dukeshire, Rex Haubert and Linda Sabo.
Heat wins went to Sebetto, L.J. Connors and Jeff Dougherty.
