Inside Line Promotions – FREMONT, Ohio (Sept. 15, 2014) – Derek Hagar had a solid debut for Destiny Motorsports last weekend at Fremont Speedway.

“The weekend was pretty good considering being in a new car and facing good drivers at Fremont,” he said.

Hagar kicked off the UNOH All Star Circuit of Champions doubleheader on Friday by qualifying 18th quickest. He then finished where he started – second – in a heat race to lock himself into the main event.

“I took the lead on the first start (of the heat race) and I think somebody spun out so they called it back,” he said. “On the second start I jumped to the lead going into turn one and Caleb Griffith drove by me coming out of turn two. I ran second the rest of the race.”

That lined Hagar up on the inside of the ninth row for the main event.

“It was stacking up around the bottom on the restarts,” he said. “I’d roll around through the middle and outside of them. I kept doing that every restart. We worked our way up to 12th. It wasn’t a bad night.”

Hagar rallied for a 12th-place finish.

A high pill draw plagued the team on Saturday.

“We just needed a little more luck on Saturday,” Hagar said. “We drew a bad pill and went out late in qualifying. The track blew off a bit and lost a couple of tenths. We missed the heat race inversion. With a stout field like that it’s hard to get yourself out of a hole.”

Hagar lined up seventh in his heat race after qualifying 28th quickest. He picked up a position to finish sixth in his heat, which was only one spot out of locking into the main event. That relegated him to the B Main.

“We got a little push in turn three on the start,” he said. “The car got a little snug and started pushing the front tires. I got passed by probably five cars and worked my way up to ninth.”

Hagar ended ninth in the consolation race, which was a handful of positions out of a transfer.

He is scheduled to continue in the Destiny Motorsports ride this week as the team tackles four races in five days.

The competition begins with three straight World of Outlaws STP Sprint Car Series events – Tuesday at Kokomo Speedway in Kokomo, Ind., Wednesday at Terre Haute Action Track in Terre Haute, Ind., and Friday at Eldora Speedway near Rossburg, Ohio – before wrapping up on Saturday at Brushcreek Motorsports Complex in Peebles, Ohio, with the All Stars.

“This is very high-caliber team,” Hagar said. “I want to thank Destiny Motorsports, Scott Benic and the crew for the opportunity. It feels really good to be sitting in the seat of this car.”
