Blaney Scores Two More Ohio Speedweek Wins Before Finishing Second in Points

Inside Line Promotions – FREMONT, Ohio (June 30, 2015) – Dale Blaney came up one spot shy of his sixth UNOH All Star Circuit of Champions Ohio Speedweek title.

Blaney and the Mainstream Holdings, Inc., backed CH Motorsports team finished second in the Ohio Speedweek points, but extended the overall All Star championship lead to 163 points following seven straight nights of racing.

“It was a really good week,” he said. “We couldn’t ask for anything more. The car counts were really good. We made the dash all seven nights and that was huge for us. We time trialed well four of them and ran a good heat race in three others. We had six really good nights and caught one bad break at Eldora.”

Blaney kicked off the second half of Ohio Speedweek last Tuesday at his home track of Sharon Speedway in Hartford, where he qualified fourth quickest and finished third in a heat race to advance into the dash.

“I got a good dash draw and we were really good in the dash,” he said. “Track position is important every race, but it was pretty crucial there. I got out to a good start in the feature and caught a couple of cautions that kept me out of thick traffic. To get a win there in front of a bunch of friends, it’s pretty special.”

Blaney led the distance of the feature after claiming the dash to earn his second victory during Ohio Speedweek.

Momentum continued to roll on Wednesday at Atomic Speedway in Chillicothe as the Mainstream Holdings, Inc., sponsored team timed in 12th quickest during qualifying. Blaney advanced from third to second place during a heat race to lock into the dash, where he powered from ninth to a runner-up result.

“Atomic has been a really good track for us the last 10 years,” he said. “We’ve gone really good there and the track is really similar every time we go there. We drew five bad pills during the week and two good ones (during the dash redraw). If I was going to get a bad one I was glad it was there because the track was so wide and racy. It wasn’t easy to overcome, but it didn’t hurt as much as other places.”

Once again Blaney led the entire race from his front row starting position to secure his third Ohio Speedweek victory, which was his sixth with the series this season and 121st overall.

“I think we ran about half the race and it started spotting rubber,” he said. “With about 10 laps to go the rubber came in. I felt like we were good until the rubber came and then we just hung on. I was being a little more conservative than I should have been.”

Ohio Speedweek wrapped up on Thursday at Fremont Speedway thanks to the final two nights being rained out last weekend. Blaney set quick time during qualifying and he placed third in a heat race to advance into the dash.

“Drawing the 10 didn’t help us there for sure,” he said. “I was just hoping to get to sixth in the dash, but we weren’t very good. We made the right adjustments after the dash and we got back on our normal program.”

Blaney, who maneuvered from 10th to eighth during the dash, started the feature on the outside of the fourth row.

“If it didn’t lay rubber I think we had a good chance of winning,” he said. “I got to second and you had to be on the bottom lane. The rubber wasn’t down a ton, but you had to be on the bottom.”

Blaney lost a position when he got out of the rubber trying to make a pass for the lead. He ended with a third-place result, which was his sixth top 10 during Ohio Speedweek.

The Mainstream Holdings, Inc., backed team returns to action with the UNOH All Star Circuit of Champion on Friday and Saturday at Mercer Raceway Park in Mercer, Pa., and Sunday at Millstream Speedway in Findlay, Ohio.
