Inside Line Promotions – COLUMBUS, Ohio (June 6, 2016) – Kevin Mingus is learning every time he hits the track. This past weekend he got to race a sprint car on dirt in front of a packed house at Fremont Speedway and he competed in the longest race of his career in a stock car at Columbus Motor Speedway.

“We are really making big strides in our dirt program,” he said. “Kurt (Huber) and Uncle Bob and my dad have helped me a ton. And what I’m learning on dirt has helped my asphalt. I’m getting more comfortable.”

Fremont Speedway in Fremont, Ohio, hosted the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series on Friday and track promoter Rich Farmer divided the 305ci sprint car division into two groups, which gave everyone the opportunity to run a feature.

“The place was packed and the atmosphere was really cool,” Mingus said.

Mingus started on the inside of the eighth row and he maneuvered to his first top-10 finish on dirt.

“We broke a shock, but I got to follow a lot of good drivers and learned a ton,” he said after placing 10th.

Mingus competed in the 8th Annual Robbie Dean Memorial at Columbus Motor Speedway on Saturday. He qualified 12th quickest, which started him on the outside of the sixth row for the 94-lap feature.

“I kept my nose clean the first part of the race,” he said. “Then I did a 360 spin and went to the tail. The high line came in and my car was great. I could pass cars at will. I passed like 12 or 13 cars and recorded the fastest lap of the race. I got to the leaders, but ran out of laps and finished sixth. The car was phenomenal. I wish I had 40 or 50 more laps.”

Mingus ended with a sixth-place result to give him three top 10s on pavement this season.

He will return to action this Friday at Attica Raceway Park in Attica, Ohio, in a 305 sprint car before racing on pavement on Saturday at Columbus Motor Speedway.

SPONSOR SPOTLIGHT: Erika Newcome

“I raced with Erika last year,” Mingus said. “She’s 21-years-old and is battling cancer. I had her No. 33 on my helmet this past weekend and got a lot of calls how others could get the decals. We will have No. 33 decals available at every race we are at. They are $3 a piece and all the proceeds will go to help with Erika’s battle. I hope we can get others on board with this.”

Mingus would also like to thank Huber Machine Werx, Hillbilly Rod Shop, Brandon Oakley Racing, DB3 Imaging and Midwest Equipment Company Crane Rental.
