Inside Line Promotions – FREMONT, Ohio (June 28, 2016) – You can tell when a young sprint car driver starts gaining confidence. It’s not always in the results, but their attitude. Such is the case for Kevin Mingus.

In his first season behind the wheel of a dirt 305ci sprint car Mingus is getting better every week. He is no longer content to simply “log laps,” but is getting more and more competitive.

Last Saturday Mingus competed at Fremont Speedway, where he met a new challenge.

“It was my first time on a rougher race track,” he said. “I was battling for a transfer position in the B Main and caught a big rut and the car biked big time and I had to get out of the throttle and that killed my momentum. So I was disappointed, but at the same time I’m excited with our progress. I’m not just out there logging laps around the back any more and we’re battling to make the feature.”

Mingus finished seventh in both a heat race and B Main to narrowly miss advancing into the main event.

“I’m gaining more and more confidence and getting more and more comfortable in the car,” he said. “I’m driving it a lot harder now. We’re coming into our own.”

Mingus will be back in the 305 sprint car this Friday at Attica Raceway Park in Attica, Ohio, as well as a late model on the asphalt at Columbus Motor Speedway in Columbus, Ohio, on Saturday.

“Hopefully we can make our first A Main at Attica,” he said. “And I’m excited about Saturday’s race at Columbus as the NASCAR K&N Pro Series will be there so there will be lots of up-and-comers there. A lot of eyes will be on us and I know our team can get a top three if not a win.”
