Inside Line Promotions – FREMONT, Ohio (April 25, 2017) – For the first time in his dirt racing career Kevin Mingus scored a pair of top-10 finishes in the same weekend against arguably the toughest 305ci winged sprint car competition in the country.

Mingus started with a seventh-place showing last Friday at Attica Raceway Park in Attica, Ohio, before he followed with a ninth-place run at Fremont Speedway the next night.

“It was another solid team effort,” he said. “It was the best weekend I’ve ever had on dirt and our whole team has a lot of confidence right now. I competed against the best 305 drivers in the country on tracks most of them have been racing on for many, many years and I held my own.”

A good pill draw on Friday by Mingus’ fiancée, Marissa Jensen, put him on the pole for his heat race. Despite racing with a heavy heart, Mingus led every lap for the win to make the feature redraw and another good draw gave him the sixth starting spot for the feature.

“My aunt passed away Friday morning, but we were able to turn tragedy into triumph,” he said. “My dad nearly drug me out of the car he was so excited after the heat. In the feature I held off a lot of guys who have been racing that track for 20 years.”

Mingus battled for a top five throughout the main event before posting the seventh-place result.

Good pill draws continued on Saturday at Fremont Speedway, which hosted its opening night of the season and the opening night for the JLH General Contractor FAST 305 Series as well. Mingus started second in his heat race and finished fourth to put him in the redraw for the feature. Another good pill had him roll off fourth in the feature.

“Last year, because we ran the late model on Saturdays, I probably only raced at Fremont five times,” he said. “It’s a completely different track than Attica and requires a lot more technical tuning on the car. Because of the confidence after Friday I was more aggressive. I smacked the backstretch wall a couple of times in the feature, but we were able to get another top 10. We have a lot to learn yet on what to do to the car when the tracks slick off, but I’m pretty pumped to get back to both tracks this weekend.”

Mingus, who ended ninth to garner his third top 10 of the season, will compete at Attica Raceway Park this Friday and at Fremont Speedway on Saturday.

SPONSOR SPOTLIGHT – Kear’s Speed Shop

Kear's Speed Shop was founded by Chuck and Shirley Kear in 1969 at its present location in Tiffin, Ohio. You can build your winning race car and outfit your driver from Kear’s large inventory. Kears Speed Shop also has three trucks that service your needs at the local tracks. For more information, visit http://www.KearsSpeedShop.com.

“For the second week in a row Kear’s saved our night,” Mingus said. “At Attica we lost a plug in the timing cover in hot laps and leaked oil all over the car. Kear’s had everything we needed to make the repairs and get out in time to win our first ever heat race.”

Mingus would also like to thank Huber Machine Werx, DB3 Imaging, Mid-America Chemical Corporation, Apple Girl Art, Jamie and Austin Neel, Hillbilly Rod Shop, Midwest Equipment Company Crane Rental, K1 Race Gear and FK Rod Ends for their continued support.
