Inside Line Promotions – FREMONT, Ohio (May 17, 2017) – Kevin Mingus is beginning to get comfortable driving a 305ci winged sprint car on dirt. Having raced the majority of his career on asphalt he is sticking primarily to the dirt tracks in 2017 and is showing improvement each week.

Mingus and the Huber/Mingus team raced their way into the A Main last weekend during events at Attica Raceway Park in Attica, Ohio, on Friday and at Fremont Speedway on Saturday.

“Last year we struggled to make A Mains,” he said. “This year we are racing our way in. I’m getting valuable seat time and my guys are gaining on the setups.”

The competition began on Friday at Attica Raceway Park, where Mingus got into a tangle in his heat race, but was able to finish in the final A Main lock-in position despite a bent front axle and crushed nose wing.

“It could have been a lot worse,” he said. “I thought I was going for a ride there for a second. We tried some new setup stuff and it was the best dirt car I’ve ever driven. I could get up on the high side in the slick. Unfortunately, it was my error that hurt us and gave us a bad feature starting spot.”

Though he recorded an 18th-place finish in the main event, Mingus was happy with the night.

“We learned a lot about our car,” he said. “We found something for Attica and we just have to fine-tune it. We are getting close to sealing the deal. I just have to limit the mistakes on my end.”

On Saturday at Fremont Speedway, Mingus backed up to seventh in his heat race and had to run the B Main. He drove to a third-place finish, earning the 18th starting spot in the main event. He battled just outside of the top 10 all race before finishing 13th.

“That was only like the seventh time I’ve raced at Fremont,” he said. “It is a completely different track than Attica. It’s a very technical track and requires a great setup and the driver can’t make any mistakes. I just have to get better.”

Mingus has another doubleheader on tap for this Friday at Attica Raceway Park and Saturday at Fremont Speedway.
