Inside Line Promotions – FREMONT, Ohio (July 6, 2017) – Kevin Mingus doesn’t have a lot of laps on dirt tracks, especially at Fremont Speedway. However, Mingus made big strides last Saturday at the oval, which is known as a tough track to get a handle on.

“We got bottled up on the start of our heat and fell back to the tail,” he said. “The car was a rocket in the heat and I was able to get back to finish sixth. That put us on the pole of the B Main and I got my first win at Fremont. Even though it was only the B Main it felt good and I logged some consistent laps. In the A Main I started toward the back and just moved around and tried to get comfortable running the high side of turns three and four.”

Mingus said he was lucky to even get out for the A Main, in which he finished 17th.

“My crew chief and car owner Kurt (Huber) was on vacation so we were short-handed,” he said. “I was busy putting fuel in the car after the B Main and looked up front and something didn’t look right. We discovered a bent tie rod. So we scrambled to get that repaired and didn’t have time to make any adjustments to the car.”

It was scheduled to be a three-race weekend for Mingus, but Friday’s event at Attica Raceway Park in Attica, Ohio, was rained out as was the Monday show at Waynesfield Raceway Park in Waynesfield, Ohio.

“That was kind of a blessing in disguise,” he said. “We were short-handed all weekend. I can’t thank my fiancée, Marissa, my work supervisor, Paul Sarty, and all the other race teams who helped out enough.”

Mingus will have his crew back this weekend when he ventures to Attica Raceway Park on Friday before tackling Fremont Speedway on Saturday.

“I want to thank Kurt and Martha for believing enough in me to let me take the car and race while they were on vacation,” Mingus said. “I want to thank the Chris Andrews race team, the Justin Adams race team and the Kyle Capodice race team for all their help last weekend.”

Mingus would also like to thank Huber Machine Werx, DB3 Imaging, Mid-America Chemical Corporation, Apple Girl Art, Jamie and Austin Neel, Hillbilly Rod Shop, Midwest Equipment Company Crane Rental, K1 Race Gear and FK Rod Ends for their continued support.
