Mingus Takes on Role as Owner and Driver in 2018

Inside Line Promotions – HURON, Ohio (March 21, 2018) – Kevin Mingus feels the pressure is off as he prepares for the 2018 racing season, when he not only assumes the role of 305ci sprint car driver but team owner as well.

“I’m back in the family owned car for the first time since 2014,” he said. “I have my dad back as my crew chief and I’m comfortable where I’m at. I don’t have to put as much pressure on myself. When I raced for other people I worried about the time and money they put into it. Now it’s my time and my money and I can concentrate on driving and learning.”

Mingus drove the past two seasons for Kurt and Martha Huber, whom he praised for all their support.

“I can’t say enough for what they did for me,” Mingus said. “They allowed me to get my feet wet on the dirt side for the first time.”

It’s been a very busy offseason for Mingus as he and his dad have made extensive repairs to a chassis they purchased as well as upgraded other equipment.

“My dad is very talented when it comes to that sort of thing,” Kevin Mingus said. “I’m also glad to be back with Griff’s Engines. They have done so much for me. They have literally busted their butts at times to get me back on the track and their engines are strong.”

The Mingus team will go back to the family number of Z10 for 2018; a number they utilized when competing on asphalt with the 305ci sprints.

“In 2014 we ran 11 races on asphalt and we won five of those,” Mingus said. “It will be the first year for my dad to be the crew chief for a dirt car, but he learns fast. He’s been working his tail off, 10 hours at work and a couple hours every night in the shop.”

Mingus plans to battle for the JLH General Contractor FAST 305 Championship Series title in 2018 as well as hit most of the shows at Attica Raceway Park in Attica, Ohio, and Fremont Speedway in Fremont, Ohio.
His season-opening race is scheduled for March 30 at Attica Raceway Park.
