Mingus Heading Into 2019 With More Confidence

Inside Line Promotions – HURON, Ohio (Oct. 18, 2018) – Although he didn’t get to race a lot in 2018 because of mechanical problems and a lot of rainouts, Kevin Mingus feels the last month of racing yielded encouraging results and gives him a ton of confidence heading into 2019, which will be his 10th season of racing and his fourth competing on dirt in a 305ci winged sprint car.

This season was the first for Mingus to own his own car.

“I started on dirt three years ago driving for Kurt Huber,” he said. “The following year we upgraded to a newer chassis and this past year I owned my own team and midway through the year we purchased our first ever brand new chassis. But the last month we started to be really competitive and I finally felt like my rookie stripe was off. For the first time in a long time we are heading into a racing season in 2019 with a ton of confidence and a notebook full of notes. At the beginning of the year we were mentally pushed down and kicked. Then we got the new car and our engine redone and it was a massive difference. It was a complete improvement on the way the car reacted.

“This year we raced our way into more A Mains and got to compete with some veterans and I learned a lot.”

Mingus essentially missed the last month of racing at his home tracks of Attica Raceway Park in Attica, Ohio, and Fremont Speedway in Fremont, Ohio.

“We were stopping for a crash at Attica and got run over,” he said. “It bent the chassis and basically ended our season after only six races with the new car. But the chassis is over at Beaber’s getting fixed, the shocks are being gone through and the engine is ready. I can’t wait for the season to start in March.”

Mingus admitted he still has a lot of work to do as a driver.

“I still have some asphalt tendencies I need to shed like consistently running the middle to bottom,” he said. “I need to get up and run the cushion when the track dictates that and do it with confidence. In 2019 I will be more aggressive. I don’t yet know what kind of schedule we will run, but it will be at least once each week and more as finances permit.”

Mingus said he is proud that the majority of his sponsors from 2018 are coming back in 2019.

“I will work hard to get a few more on board, but I can’t thank all of those that are coming back enough,” he said. “It means the world to me and this team will work hard to be up front competing with the veterans like John Ivy, Paul Weaver, Bobby Clark, Jamie Miller.”
