Inside Line Promotions – ORRVILLE, Ohio (July 8, 2020) – Greg Wilson has passed a lot of race cars during the first half of the Cometic Gasket Ohio Sprint Speedweek presented by Hercules Tires.

Wilson has guided his Hercules Tires, Ohio Logistics, DNC Hydraulics and Gear Off Road backed team to one top-five run, a trio of top-10 finishes and two Hard Charger Awards for passing the most cars during the first four nights of the nine-race spectacle with the Ollie’s Bargain Outlet All Star Circuit of Champions presented by Mobil 1.

“We have spent more time in our shop the last two weeks and even yesterday on our day off, dynoing shocks and sorting out a game plan when we get to the track, than in recent history,” he said. “I feel like it has showed.”

Speedweek began last Friday at Attica Raceway Park in Attica, Ohio, where Wilson qualified 24th quickest before advancing from sixth to fifth place in a heat race and from fourth to third place in the B Main to transfer into the back of the main event. He then rallied from 23rd to seventh to close the night with the Hard Charger Award.

“It sure doesn’t hurt being back home,” he said. “Attica and Fremont, we’ve done well there and it’s in our backyard. You have a pretty good idea of what your car needs to do. It’s just crazy that we’re going about it a different way, whether it’s things getting changed on us like tires or whatever. By feature-time on Friday night we had a pretty darn good car. When you can pass that many cars and you’re still coming at the end of the race it’s a confidence booster.”

Wilson produced his most complete night of the season on Saturday at Fremont Speedway in Fremont, Ohio. He timed in 24th quickest in qualifying, won a heat race and placed fifth in a dash before maneuvering from ninth to fourth place in the A Main.

“We timed decent in our group, won our heat race and used the dash to try stuff for the A Main,” he said. “We were mediocre in the dash, which was great. It gave us a really good car in the feature and it showed. You have to put those full nights together to put yourself in position to win races.”

Wilson returned to Fremont Speedway on Sunday. He qualified 28th quickest before advancing from ninth to eighth in a heat race and from 10th to fifth place in the B Main to narrowly miss locking into the feature. Wilson used a provisional to start last in the main event.

“That was frustrating,” he said. “I’ve felt like you use a provisional when you have a really good race car and have to use it because of whatever happened. I felt like realistically we were a top-five car, but we started 25th. You feel like you’ve given an opportunity away that you have a shot at winning or getting a better finish than you had. But the end result for our team, going from 25th to 10th, was a good points night and we put on a show for our sponsors that were there.”

Wilson scored his second Hard Charger Award of Speedweek after gaining 15 positions.

The team ventured to Wayne County Speedway on Monday. Wilson overcame a 20th-place qualifying run by picking up five positions in a heat race to finish fourth. That locked him into the main event, which he capped with an 18th-place outing.

“I don’t race there a lot and we did things different than what we had been doing,” he said. “We got lucky in the heat and some cars wrecked. Sometimes it’s better to be lucky that good. We got it in the feature, but we were average all night and couldn’t make up spots. We were pretty lucky to come out of there with an okay finish and unscathed.”

Speedweek resumes on Wednesday at Bushcreek Motorsports Park in Peebles, Ohio. The remaining races are Thursday at Muskingum County Speedway in Dresden, Ohio; Friday at Portsmouth Raceway Park in Portsmouth, Ohio; and Saturday and Sunday at Sharon Speedway in Hartford, Ohio.
