Inside Line Promotions – FREMONT, Ohio (May 18, 2021) – Greg Wilson posted a sixth-place result on Saturday to cap a weekend that featured a change of plans.

The Hercules Tires, Ohio Logistics and DNC Hydraulics backed driver made progress throughout the night at Fremont Speedway. He qualified 19th quickest and sixth in his group before hustling from sixth to third place in a heat race. That earned a spot into the feature redraw.

“The weather looked threatening and we had to change an engine so we decided to change plans and go to Fremont,” he said. “We were very competitive.”

Wilson pulled the No. 10 to line up on the outside of the fifth row for the main event.

“It got a little choppy around the top, which made it pretty technical,” he said. “It was hard to maneuver around because we were in traffic the whole time. There were three or four of us racing the whole time. I went from about 10th to sixth back to 10th and back up to sixth. I wasn’t good enough to clear one car, not that he was doing anything wrong. If we could have done that I think we could have pulled away. I felt like we could have run inside the top five, but overall we were pleased with the progress of running sixth. It was also nice because we tried some stuff there and I think we learned something.”

Wilson’s sixth-place result was his 13th top 10 of the season.

The weekend began on Friday with a FloRacing All Star Circuit of Champions event at I-96 Speedway in Lake Odessa, Mich. Wilson timed in 22nd quickest overall and fourth in his group to catch the heat race inversion. He won a heat race from the pole position to advance into a dash. A fifth-place result in his dash started Wilson ninth in the Mace Thomas Classic main event.

“We didn’t time in great, but with the way the format was it got us up front for the heat,” he said.
“We won the heat race to get us in a dash. We tried some stuff and felt mediocre in the dash. I felt okay in the feature before we had a mechanical issue, actually a part failure I’ve never seen in racing. When it started really acting up we were running in the top 10 so that was frustrating.”

The DNF relegated Wilson to a 19th-place finish.

The team has a four-race schedule this weekend planned with races on Thursday and Friday at Circle City Raceway in Indianapolis, Ind.; on Saturday at Gas City I-69 Speedway in Gas City, Ind.; and on Sunday at Kokomo Speedway in Kokomo, Ind., for the All Star Indiana Invasion presented by the Rayce Rudeen Foundation with the FloRacing All Star Circuit of Champions.

“It’s pretty cool to go to some places we haven’t been in a while and get to race in the state of Indiana, which is nice,” he said. “It’s not that far from here and it’ll be cool to see a new track in Circle City. They are all bullrings so hopefully four nights of tight racing should be pretty fun.”
