Wilson Garners AFCS Victory at Fremont Speedway

Inside Line Promotions – FREMONT, Ohio (June 28, 2022) – Greg Wilson earned his second feature victory of the season at Fremont Speedway last Saturday when the track hosted the All Pro Aluminum Cylinder Heads/Kistler Racing Products Attica Fremont Championship Series presented by the Baumann Auto Group.

It marked the 15th career triumph at Fremont Speedway for the Hercules Tires, Ohio Logistics and DNC Hydraulics sponsored Seeling Motorsports driver.

“Any time you win it’s pretty special,” Wilson said. “We’ve been really good at Attica and Fremont all year. They are places we’ve grown up at and we both really like going to. That already gets your confidence up a little bit. It was Hall of Fame Night and (Bob) Hampshire got inducted. Some wins in life aren’t about the money or fame. It was one of those special moments to win that night.”

Wilson qualified 15th quickest overall and fourth in his group to garner the pole position in a heat race. He won the heat to advance into the feature redraw. Wilson pulled the No. 5 to line up on the inside of the third row in the A Main.

“We were really good hot lapping and we were decent in qualifying,” he said. “We got a good start in our heat race and got out front. That put us in a good spot for the feature and we redrew the No. 5.

“It was a tale of two different tracks. Early in the night it was rough and choppy with no signs of getting slick. They went out and scraped it. They ended up with a really good track at the end of the night. It slickened up and had a little chop, which gave it some character. Andy (Potter) gambled and took some big chances as a mechanic and they were the right ones.”

Wilson took the lead around the midpoint of the race en route to the victory.

“I was being pretty patient,” he said. “I knew we were really good around turns one and two. Cole (Macedo) was leading and out a bit, like half a straightway. He struggled with lapped cars, but I could see I was gaining when we were in the clear. I just tried to put myself in a good position and we were able to capitalize.”

Wilson began the weekend on Friday at Attica Raceway Park in Attica, Ohio, where he timed in 22nd overall and advanced from fifth to fourth place in a heat race. The night concluded with Wilson rallying from 15th to seventh in the feature to earn the Hard Charger Award for passing the most cars.

“You really never want to be in the first heat race at Attica,” he said. “With no hot laps and you go right into qualifying, and we took a new car I think we’ve only run twice, we were off a little bit. We were okay in the heat race and started pretty deep in the main event. We ran it up to seventh. We were okay. I felt we were a few changes away from being good. It was nice to have some things happen during the race with the changes that we made telling us they were a positive and that helped us on Saturday.”

This weekend Wilson has a Hercules Tires dealership visit on Saturday at Ron’s Tire Sales in Johnstown, Pa., from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

He plans on racing on Sunday at Waynesfield Raceway Park in Waynesfield, Ohio.
